It took some time but finally an update here and an important one. Tomorrow our new 45 from the Kryng will be presented at the Vera in Groningen. Almost 16 years ago Kuriosa released The No-Goods´ first EP, Lekkere Beat and 10 years ago their last 45 "Wonder". Now after some great releases on legendary labels like Kogar Records and Teensound, it´s great to bring you a Kryng 45 featuring Mark and Peter from the No-Goods, together with Arjan Spies (The Kik and Mark & the Spies).

Not much news from our side yet, most likely next month we will reveal our next release, a 45 with THE summer hit of 2018, and we now are really down to our last copies of the fantastic second LP from our Combo Koedijk, so make sure you get your copy! Combo Koedijk – door de regio
LP nummer 2 van het Combo uit Meppel, wederom gevuld met een bizarre mix van piratenbeat en garagerock. Met invloeden van Lowland Trio via the Beatles tot Thee Milkshakes. Klinkt raarrrr? Is het ook, maar alweer verrekte aanstekelijk en met een fikse handvol nieuwe Regio hits als Oude Rieksweg Boogie (top instrumental), spijkerharde religaragerock in Het Is De Heer (te hard voor de EO), triestige Nederbeat (Ik Lig 's Nachts Wel's Te Schreien, De Kop D'r Niet Bij), countryrock in Meppel Noord. Minder levenslied en schlager, maar dat vinden we niet zo erg. Wederom een kleine oplage, 150 stuks deze keer, wees er snel bij, want onze voorraad zal rap op zijn. Luister de plaat hier.

De Kettingzaag:

Combo Koedijk is terug met hun tweede langspeler, getiteld Door de regio. Samengevat: het is meer van hetzelfde, maar dan anders. En dat is goed.
We komen er graag, om te funshoppen, kapsalons te verorberen en ons laatste greintje zelfrespect op te geven tijdens ontgroeningsrituelen. Dan ik heb het natuurlijk over de grote stad. U weet wel: daar waar de boeren schoenen dragen. Het Combo Koedijk uit Noord-Nederland heeft ook een enigszins stadse achtergrond, maar om Meppel nou een echte stad te noemen is net zoiets als Apeldoorn bestempelen als zijnde een metropool. In Meppel eet je een broodje shoarma gewoon met mayonaise.
De veertien liedjes zijn weer opgenomen bij Studio Teepdek door drumpiraat en bandenplakker Arjan Spies. Vette sound gegarandeerd dus. De plaat in kwestie, samen met de eerste: Donderjagen – nu uit op cassette, op Teepdek Records De inspiratiebronnen zijn weinig veranderd: piratenpolka’s en sixties beat en punk.
De gemiddelde boer met schoenen die niet verder kijkt dan zijn baard lang is, zal Door de regio wederom weglachen; in de grote stad hebben ze tenslotte wel belangrijkere dingen aan het hoofd. Bijvoorbeeld het beantwoorden van de vraag wat nou de diepere betekenis van dat gaatje in het midden van een langspeelplaat is. Maar de één zijn glutenvrije boomschorsburger is de ander zijn patatje oorlog. Niet alle vragen, geneugten en moeilijkheden des levens komen voorbij, maar een aantal toch zeker. Zo tik ik tijdens het luisteren af:
Liefde en je kut voelen.
Liefde en je goed voelen.
Liefde en een lekker potje rocken.
Liefde en snackbarvoedsel.
Liefde en Yoko Ono.
Liefde en de glimlach van een hond.
Liefde en de schoonheid van het platteland.

Een zeer gevarieerde plaat dus. En waar woorden tekort schieten daar takelt Combo Koedijk doodgewoon een fijne instrumental uit het ruim van hun piratenschip.

Geen gezeik, Combo Koedijk

De plaat staat bol van de jingles en de gastoptredens zijn niet van de lucht. Er is zowaar een heuse blazerssectie ingevlogen om één en ander op te leuken. Ik las ergens een stukje waarin de schrijver het over ‘die moeilijke tweede plaat’ had. Moeilijk? Er is helemaal niks moeilijks aan. De kwestie is eerder dat in de huidige tijd van hypes, journalistieke platitudes en oppervlakkige overdaad, eenvoud niet meer als mogelijkheid wordt herkend.

Door De Regio - Combo Koedijk
Na het daverende succes van de alom bejubelde debuutplaat Donderjagen Met Het Combo Koedijk - binnen enkele dagen uitverkocht - lag er een behoorlijke druk op de schouders van de Drentse band. Die altijd lastige tweede moest en zou er komen en mocht vanzelfsprekend niet onderdoen voor de eerste plaat. Ook Door De Regio Met Het Combo Koedijk mag gehoord worden. Wel heeft er een lichte koerswijziging plaatsgevonden. Het piratengedeelte heeft enigszins in moeten leveren ten faveure van nog meer garagerock. Bepaald geen straf. Daarnaast heeft de band kosten nog moeite gespaard en een heus blaasorkest ingehuurd om de tweede kant van de plaat te openen. Dit lied getiteld Laat Mij Maar Wezen is wellicht het mooiste lied op Door De Regio. Maar het blijft moeilijk kiezen bij Combo Koedijk, want net als op die semi-legendarische eerste plaat worden ook op Door De Regio de ene gouden melodie met de ander afgewisseld. Ook tekstueel tikt Door De Regio het niveau van Donderjagen aan. De dagelijkse beslommeringen worden bezongen, maar ook als het gaat om diepgaande filosofische beschouwingen is het combo niet voor een gat te vangen. Zo leren we wat de mensen bezighoudt in Meppel Noord inclusief een ooggetuigenverslag wat daar allemaal gebeurt. De verkoop van Door De Regio loopt dusdanig voorspoedig dat er misschien nog ergens een exemplaar op een eigenaar staat te wachten. Ergens... in de regio.

PoP SnoB Record Covers:
Catchy jingle jangle garage 'n' beat in Thee Milkshakes/Guided by Voices/Byrds/Bo Diddley style. Songs sung in Dutch dialect about girls, driving around in the country side and having trouble with Yoko Ono. A magnificent instrumental called "The Golden Retreiver". Interludes drenched in that typical Dutch pirate station echo sound. That somewhat naive cover design......... Enter the second album of Het Combo Koedijk!
The core members of Het Combo Koedijk hail from Meppel, a small town in the northern part of the Netherlands, and their bio tells us they love Pierre Kartner (an old campy guy who sings about Smurfs!), G.G. Allen, Link Wray and the Beatles. Talking about musical taste.... Their first album (sold out) was in the PoP SnoB album top ten of 2017 (which is quite an achievement) and this one is equally great, maybe even better. So, it's thee best album of 2018 so far, ha!
Again this one is vinyl only on Kuriosa Records and you'd better be fast, 'cuz these 150 copies will be gone too within a blink of an eye!

#11 Het Combo Koedijk – Donderjagen Met … (Kuriosa Records)
Huh? Wie? Tja, deze plaat is misschien wat lastig uit te leggen aan hen die westelijk van Barneveld wonen, maar voor de rest, of tenminste zij die opgegroeid zijn met etherpiraten en Duitse TV zal dit makkelijker te plaatsen zijn. Even een kleine uitleg: Het Combo Koedijk uit Meppel e.o. is weer een band rond Mark (the Beatle) ten Hoor, beter bekend van garagebands the No-Goods en the Kryng, deze keer samen met gitarist Alfred (very slowhand) Nooij met achter zich de andere Kryng leden Arjan Spies en Peter Kroes plus Crazy Gerry van de Krontjong Devils. Piratenbeat meets garagepunk en er is niets ironisch aan. Men noemt als inspiratiebron zowel Heino als GG Allin. Veertien nummers die uiteenlopen van smartlappen tot keiharde garagepunk. Zo opent de plaat (na een in echo gedrenkte piratenzender intro) met de kneiter van een slacker carnavalskraker Te Lui Om Voor De Duvel Te Dansen om na een Radio Drenthe-vriendelijke countryfolk deun er met gestrekt been in te gaan met Sjekkie, een van fuzz vergeven bak loserpunk. En zo gaat dat gezellig door met een surrealistische Vogeltjesdans instro, een hoempa song die eindigt in dub(?) en die befaamde piratenbeat natuurlijk, Beatles meets de Heikrekels, met in de hit Touren Met Alfred Nooij zo’n heerlijk zeikerige orgelsolo. Dit had natuurlijk helemaal fout kunnen aflopen, maar Mark ten Hoor blijft in alle genres een top songsmid, ook in streektaal, en kantje 2, track 3, de alles verpletterende loser Nederbeat garagepunker Ik Haal Vandaag Wel Patat is wat ons betreft Song van het Jaar. En dan nu het slechte nieuws: de plaat is alleen op vinyl verschenen in een oplage van 110 stuks, bij voorintekening reeds uitverkocht en zal nu lastig te vinden zijn.
De plaat is niet te vinden op Spotify, maar Bandcamp biedt uitkomst (al is het dan zonder de geregelde etherpiraat onderbrekingen)

Erik Hoezen (De Rooie Jager, Jagersonic & Code Rood Events): Natuurlijk heb ik afgelopen jaar links en rechts wel wat plaatjes gekocht en natuurlijk zat daar links en rechts wel wat mooi spul tussen (IDLES,Jason Isbell) maar de plaat waar ik in 2017 het meeste plezier aan heb beleefd is deze cultclassic van het COMBO KOEDIJK. Mark,Gerhard,Arjan,Peter,top,bedankt kerels.

NEWS: November 2017

As usual we only bother you when there´s some news, however this time we are awfully late. A new incorporation in the Kuriosa business delayed me in telling you about our upcoming release. It turns out that the new member needed to be taught everything, sleeping, eating and taking a piss. The youth of today is getting more and more lazy. But enough about that..

Our 2 rascals Mark and Alfredo from het Combo Koedijk have been recording in the first 6 months of the year together again with Arjan, Peter, Gerhard and a whole brass and horn section. The result is the fantastic second LP Door de Regio! The LP should be available at the beginning of 2018! Do no not expect many surprises, same recipe just some great different songs!

The good news is that also a wonderful EP will be released at the same time from The Combo! Subroutine will release a 4 song EP "Het Combo Koedijk luustert zo groag naor garage rock". This EP should be available at Subroutine´s yearly festivities around Eurosonic in Groningen.

NEWS: March 2017

It was a bit quiet as I´m waiting on the documentary "Donderjagers uit Drenthe; the rise of Het Combo", but that seems to take some time. For now you have to do with this crude live recording of Railtender at the Vera kelderbar in Groningen:

Apart from recording a second longplayer, Mark, Arjan and Peter are now waiting on the release of the debut LP "Going Nowhere" from The Kryng on Teensound Records. Should be at the pressing plant now.

Gerhard has been recording with The Tremor V, a great instro combo, these here are some rehearsal recordings:


By the way Peter will be in Italy together with mr Point and mr Drain. Make sure you go see the Low Point Drains if you are in the neighborhood. Hopefully they still play some of the early hits as well:

The Heck
Our second favorite bandmember from the Sensational Second Cousins has started a new group, the Heck. Our favorite Keefmen needed another outlet for his more garagerock songs which do not suit the SSC´s rock´n´roll frenzy. They have already recorded 8 songs, and will soon record some more. It took long time, but here it is our new release: Donderjagen met het Combo Koedijk! 14 smash hits with an unique combination of (Neder) beat, garage punk, folk, German schlager and the delicious traditional Dutch Pirate sound. On this long player you will be taken to the beautiful province in the North of the Netherlands called Drenthe. Het Combo Koedijk consists of the illustrious duo Mark The Beatle (The No-Goods & The Kryng) and Alfredo Nooijo. They have written some great songs about local news, watching beautiful girls, laziness, touring the region in Alfredos car, smoking cigarettes, mothers, eating chips, playing records and of course the local transvestite. Their heroes: Dennie Christian, Combo Knus & Gezellig, CCR, De Heikrekels, Meindert Talma, Action Swingers, Cocktail Trio, Het, Heino and the Rolling Stones.
On the LP they are assisted by Peter Kroes (The Kryng & De Keefmen), Gerhard Rinsma (Krontjong Devils & The Firebirds) and Arjan Spies (The Kik and Mark & the Spies). Recorded at the fabulous Studio Teepdeck.

A new month, and time for some new updates

AGAIN SOME KIND WORDS about our latest release "Wanna be like you" EP from The Trash Templars

THE TRASH TEMPLARS Wanna Be Like You Kuriosa • Die Flausen, die THE TRASH TEMPLARS im Kopf haben, erinnern an jene, die in den Neunzigern Estrus und Rip Off zur großen Budget-Rock-Bonanza angestiftet haben. Behelmt mit umgedrehten Blecheimern wirkt die derangierte Kostümierung der Ramschritter ausgesprochen albern, der krude, lärmende ’66-Euro-Beat dafür umso authentischer. Das ist genau jener überanstrengte Fuzzsound, der die Festland-Epigonen der PRETTY THINGS oder THEM oftmals geiler klingen ließ als die Originale, nämlich immer dann, wenn Exzess und Krach mangelnde musikalische Raffinesse kompensieren sollten. Lowery hätte seine wahre Freude an dieser Prachtscheibe!

The Trash Templars acaban de estrenar trabajo en el sello de mi amigo Gerben (Kuriosa Records) , un grato descubrimiento y una banda que no te dejará indiferente sobre todo cuando suena “I want to be like you” con el pedal de fuzz en punto de ebullición sonora, uno de los temas de garage a destacar en este 2015. Siguiendo la estela de bandas como Crusaders, Mummies o los primeros Makers desgranan rock and roll ruidoso y sucio cuando se sacuden “Whisplash” o el machacon “Lady in red”. Para cerrar con otro tema que me tiene pillado, por su contundencia y simplicidad titulado “Wanna know”. Por otro lado, los vínculos (que no vienen a cuento) templarios me tocan de forma directa y estos alemanes defienden causas chatarreras de forma espectacular en este disco ideal para tipos tan simples como un servidor.

There is this loudmouth-jock everyone knows. And for some deranged reason everybody loves him. I really don’t know why. This one’s for him!
Whiplash:
This one is about sexual frustration from the female point of view. But she takes matters in her own hands. She’s a hard hitter!
Wanna Know
The female point of view, again. The woman is attracted to someone who really isn’t a treat to look at. A face only a mother could love. But it’s the inner values that count, right? She does not really know how to cope with the situation. Hence the title.
Lady In Red
You’re more or less hammered. You’re out in town and the last two drinks were four drinks too much. Then you approach a girl and try to get her coming with you. But, no surprise here, you fail miserably.

One of the highlights of the party was this great song "The man I used to be", unfortunately it isn´t on the EP, but the 4 songs that are, are just as great if not better!

Sorry for the delay again and in keeping you posted on what´s happening. Turns out all those articles about how hip vinyl is and the long delays in delivering the records might actually be true...We still have hope that our upcoming release from the Trash Templars will arrive on time for their concert in the Blues Bar at the end of the month, although I would not bet on it. In the meantime you can of course already pre-order it, and we sent it to you as soon as possible.
Let´s see how hip vinyl really is....
